Abstract:
Internet now becomes a substitute of libraries; all the information on every subject is now available on Net. The possible uses of the Web seem endless, but the great lacuna of Internet is the lack of labeling, cataloging and descriptive information structured in such a way that allows Web pages to be properly searched and processed in particular by computer. In other words, what is now very much needed on the Web is metadata. Most of the common metadata describes the intellectual content of resources, and this is well exploited for cataloging and resource discovery purposes. Metadata can also assist in management of large repositories of resources. This paper is an effort to show how metadata can help to organize the content so that user can retrieve the exact piece of information from the ocean of electronic resources.
