dc.description.abstract The plan for establishing a National Information Centre for Machine Tools is given as a case study- The need for such a Centre, the objectives and the criteria to be considered in the establishment of an information system are mentioned. The subject profile of the field of machine tools, and the type of information required at the different stages of the development of a machine tool product are discussed. Details regarding the structure, organi- sation, documentation services, manpower and finances required ere discussed- In conclusion, it has been suggested that for the development of an effective and efficient system the dynamism of the organising and the responsiveness of the users to the system arc required. en_US
